City of Detroit

U.S. Truck Driver Training School works closely with the City of Detroit by training its employees for Class A and B CDL certifications.

Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC)

Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation became the City of Detroit’s workforce agency in 2012. DESC is a part of the Michigan Works! Association, and is one of 16 Michigan Works! Agencies located throughout the state. Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation reports to the Mayor’s Workforce Development Board, which is established by the Mayor of Detroit, and is also the lead agency for ‘Detroit at Work’, which provides job placement, search, training, career advisement and other supportive services to tens of thousands of Detroiters every year.

Focus: HOPE

Focus: HOPE is a Detroit-based, non-denominational, non-profit organization whose aim is to overcome racism and poverty by providing education and training for underrepresented minorities and others. They offer scholarship-based educational and workforce development programs to prepare individuals for success in navigating the job market.

Goodwill Detroit

Goodwill Industries was founded in 1902, offering skills training programs and job placement services. In April 1921, Reverend John Martin founded Goodwill Industries of Detroit. In 1970, this merged with the League for the Handicapped to provide more services to better serve its community. Today, Goodwill supports more than 900 local businesses annually with a reliable and quality workforce. Those who train with Goodwill receive classroom and vocational training, as well as workplace behavior coaching, financial literacy, placement assistance, and career support.

Michigan Works!

The Michigan Works! Association provides services and support to Michigan’s workforce development system. Members can access timely and relevant professional development opportunities. The association gives its members support, training, and services they require to resume work if they have been out of the workforce for a while.

Southwest Economic Solutions (SWES)

Located in Detroit, Southwest Economic Solutions (SWES) aims to provide opportunities for individuals and families to achieve economic success. They promote and preserve homeownership, advance financial literacy, and have become a leader in workforce development and adult literacy services.

Universal Logistics Holdings is a full-service provider of customized transportation and logistics solutions. This program is offered to permit qualified potential drivers to obtain training and to secure a valid CDL.  If applicants are approved, Universal will pay for Class A CDL truck driving school. The purpose of this program is to employ those who successfully complete the training as a Class A CDL driver for Universal.

In order to participate you must meet the basic CDL A job requirements listed below:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Willing to obtain hazmat and tanker endorsement.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record upon application.
  • Must maintain acceptable motor vehicle record upon completion.
  • Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

  1. I like that you said that companies could start partnering with programs for safe licensing. The other night, my brother said that he was looking for CDL courses that could help him obtain a license for a truck driver position. He asked if I had any idea for the best option. Thanks to this informative article. I’ll tell him he can consult a CDL truck course company for more information about the process.
