The 40 Hour Passenger Add-On Course is designed to teach students the basic operations of a passenger bus with an automatic transmission with air brakes. This course is designed for individuals that already possess a Class A or B CDL.
A commercially rated Passenger Bus is any single vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more and a towing capacity of no more than 10,000 pounds. Additionally, the vehicle must have the capacity to carry 16 or more people (including the driver). Class B vehicles do not typically have a trailer attached.
This accelerated course certifies successful completers for their Entry Level Driver Training requirements needed to be eligible to take a state of Michigan CDL Passenger exam. This includes ELDT Theory, Range, and Road segments. Successful completers must achieve at least 80% proficiency in each category to be considered a successful completer.
To enroll in this short course, students will need to obtain their Passenger Endorsement permit with air brakes. U.S. Truck Driver Training School can provide resources on how to obtain the necessary permit prior to starting the course.
Students will learn how to properly perform a pre-trip safety inspection of the vehicle and learn the basic control skills associated with the state of Michigan CDL exam. This includes straight line backing, off-set backing, and 90 degree backing skills.
Additionally, students will be taught how to safely operate on public roadways. This includes city and highway operations, hazardous perceptions, speed and space management, lane control, sign identification, railroad crossings, and learning maximum bridge heights for vehicles rated for Passengers.
Upon completion of this course and successfully passing the state exam, students will possess the Passenger Endorsement Add-on to either their pre-existing Class A or B CDL.
