120-Hour CDL A Training Course

Course Overview

The 120 Hour Class A CDL Training Course is for individuals who have obtained their Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) and DOT medical card prior to enrollment at U.S. Truck Driver Training School, Inc. (USTDTS). This course is approved by the Michigan Department of State’s Drivers Education Division for Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) and is registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations (FMCSA) Training Provider Registry (TPR).  

This training course meets the ELDT requirements for: 

  • Theory 
  • Behind the Wheel Range 
  • Behind the Wheel Road 

Disclaimer: All segments of Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) are instructor guided. 

This course is offered in full-time and part-time formats.  

  • Full-time – Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for 3 weeks 
  • Part-time – Saturday & Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for 7.5 weekends 
  • Lunch is from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

This program requires no experience with the physical aspects of CDL operations and is designed to teach students Class A CDL Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) theory, Range/hands-on ELDT requirements, this includes pre-trip inspection (PTI), basic control skills (BCS), drop & hook (coupling & uncoupling the tractor and trailer), parallel parking, and ELDT Road operations. Students will be trained on a 10-speed manual semi tractor trailer with a 53-foot trailer equipped with airbrakes.  

Successful completers of this program will be required to have a minimum of 80% proficiency in all aspects of their program of study.

Upon successful completion of the course, their grades and attendance will be uploaded to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations (FMCSA) Training Provider Registry (TPR). Once uploaded, the institution will schedule the student for a Class A CDL exam with our testing division. U.S. Truck Driver Training School is licensed by the Michigan Department of State to conduct CDL exams.
